A couple of weeks ago I came across a meme on Facebook about how we only have 18 summers with our children (before they want to go off and do their own thing I guess!). It's been shared many times across the internet so it's definitely resonating with parents. I'll be honest and say it kind of shocked me, here was me thinking I had a lifetime of summers with my daughter but in reality, I don't. I have 18. Eek.
I am not much of a planner so I never feel the need to fill every day of the holidays with planned activities but it certainly made me realise that I need to make the most of the time because it is special and hopefully one day my little girl will look back on the holidays and remember the fun we had. I loved my summer holidays as a child, all that blissful freedom. You could literally taste it on the last day of school! I have longed for that feeling again many times throughout adulthood. I want to ensure our holidays are just as special; fun filled but relaxed too.
As much as I am excited about having my small person all to myself for weeks on end, it does make me a little anxious. I work from home and I am used to doing my work in the daily two hours playgroup time. I know I just have to embrace it and adapt but it definitely presents a few challenges. I am sure I won't be the only one that feels a little pressure to ensure my daughter has the best time ever. However, I try to remember that it's not all about the grand gestures or the big days out. She will remember the extra time we got to spend together. Nothing can beat that.
